Clintfest
I'm finally getting to play at Clintfest!
I'm so pleased to be included in this annual event, commemorating all members of the Loved Ones musical group along with family and friends. Absent will be Doug Graham and Byrd Burton, who have joined God's Loved Ones. Members include Terry (BGT) Johnson, Mike Coyner, Ranse Whitworth, Alan Copeland and myself, along with other members of spinoff bands such as the B-Team Blues Band. We'll do some rehearsing on Friday (along with some swimming and some eating and possibly some adult refreshment), and the concert will be on Saturday. It's one of the most fun things I do each summer, and one of the most emotional too, as we have all grown back together again - even closer than we were back "in the day".
It’s a smaller version of the popular Sunday Market just for the downtown crowd. Held at the centrally-located Miller Plaza, the Thursday Plaza Party is a family-friendly marketplace featuring fresh produce, local arts & crafts, live music, fresh-squeezed lemonade and even an ice-cold beer. I'll be playing from about 4:30 to about 6:30. C'mon out and join me - you know you want to!

I'll be wandering around as one of the Festival's "roving musicians". FIND ME, JOIN ME, SIT AND RELAX A WHILE!

This will be a songwriter-in-the-round event and an opportunity to hear some mighty fine original tunes by Troy Underwood, myself and other yet-undisclosed performers. We hope you'll get out of the mainstream rut and come out for something a little different. Mudpie had great food, hot coffee, cold beer and a friendly staff. No excuses - be there!!
Every year, Gus! I do this every year. I'll be paying at all the participating stages and managing one of them. I also offer performers at my stage the option of recording their set, rendering a CD shortly afterwards at a minimal cost. The whole weekend makes for treasured memories!

I'm baaaaack! One of my favorite places to play is the Mudpie Restaurant and Coffeehouse. Great food, cold beer and a fine PA for good sound. What more could you ask for? What more could I ask for? Well, I could ask that you come out! It's an early gig, so there's plenty of time for more Friday night fun afterward. Join me!

Costa, John Lilly, Kipyn Martin, Bryan Elijah Smith, Judith Avers and, of course, Pops Walker. To try for an invitation, visit: http://popswalker.com/SRFS.htm

We're baaaack! Guess they loved us here the first time. Thanks to all who came out!
I've lost track of how many of these I've been to, but I look forward to it each year. I'll get to perform at a number of stages, and I'll be co-managing (with PJ Steelman) the main stage behind Curb Records. If you're near Nashville, c'mon by!

It's always a lot of fun, with several songwriters, performing 3 or 4 on stage at a time and alternating songs. I enjoy these events because I get to play my best solo material for an attentive audience as well as listen to a lot of other fine performers in this intimate setting. I hope you'll come!
With my compatriot, Sonny Campbell! One of our favorite places to play in the Roanoke area, the "PIG" has terrific food, and the show is out on the great deck. Eat, drink and be merry with me!

40 some years ago, I was an insider - these guys never forget, although their memories are a little cloudy nowadays. We'll eat, drink, play and relive some old times while creating new memories and celebrating decades of friendship.

An invitation-only festival produced by Pops Walker, featuring some of last year's performers and also Devon Sproule for 2007! I can't wait!
This is a day-long benefit for Plebian and Red, who support the music community so much. They were recently burned out of their home, and we'll help raise some dough to help them get started again. Come!
My first time here. Here's what others say:
1 - a hole-in-the-wall with Formica tables and scruffy regulars who could be truly starving artists or slumming millionaires
2 - The North Shore's best neighborhood bar serving--among other grill items--burgers that might make you think twice about all this Merv's and Tubby's talk. Sit outside.
3 - an easy stroll across the Walnut Street Bridge or a short drive over Veteran’s Bridge.
I'll be joining about a dozen of the region's finest songwriters in an "in-the-round" performance. I'm honored to be there and even more honored if you'd join me!

It's my third year at the "PIG", and I really dig it! Come on out and join the fun! And the food! And the fun! Outside on the deck in good weather.
My third year here, too, as a volunteer and performer.

I'll be with Sonny Campbell at Britt Mistele's Songwriters Night here in beautiful downtown Floyd, Va. Come get some great food along with an intimate musical experience with Sonny and me.
What a great night! A super-nice staff and a terrific audience made for an enjoyable evening for both Sonny and myself. We were both a little nervous - me because it was a new venue, and Sonny because he doesn't play out solo much. We both did right well, however. If you missed it, shame on you!
Roanoke's Best Open Mic is every Thursday night. Al Coffey and I co-host and welcome you to come listen to the wannabees, the maybees, and the gonnabees. It's fun! It's free! Bring your instrument and plenty of friends! Get there early to sign up for a slot.
This will be out on the wonderful deck under the stars! The PIG is in the Botetourt Commons Shopping Center, 1/2 mile north of I-81 on hwy. 220. Come for the great food and be entertained!
I really dig "The Pig" !
This is the annual FUTURE OF MUSIC COALITION Policy Summit, a forum for musicians, lawyers, academics, policymakers and music industry executives to come together to discuss and debate some of the most contentious issues surrounding digital technology, artists’ rights and the current state of the music industry. I was fortuanate enough to be granted a scholarship to attend. Thanks to all the event and scholarship sponsors, especially Just Plain Folks, CD Baby and ASCAP!
I'll be participating for the 4th consecutive year as a contestant and a volunteer staffer. THis is a great event for songwriters and for music lovers who enjoy non-mainstream original music.
All I can say is that the 4th Newsong was spectacular, as usual. I'll have a post-mortem in my next newsletter soon!
Voted Roanoke's Best Open Mic by the readers of City Magazine (thank you, readers!). I'll co-host the event with Al Coffey, the Swiss Army Musician. The music has been exceptional of late, and you're missing out if you stay home! Come on out - and bring your instrument and friends!
